Newsletter January 2025
Dear fellow music lover,
On Monday 6 January you can book your subscription for the Spring 2025 series of Coffee Concerts. You certainly won’t want to miss them, designed as they are to bring cheer and delight to the darkest days of the year.
Inigo Mikeleiz and David Zucchi have both played for us before and their last concert here as the Mikeleiz-Zucchi Duo proved one of our most popular. They always seem to be enjoying every note they play and their enthusiasm for the music they present is infectious. This time their programme, Contradance, is of dance music so we’re sure this will brighten up a February Sunday morning perfectly.
Flutes & Frets is a young duo visiting us for the first time and offering a programme entitled A Few of our Favourite Things. They will take us on a chronological journey of personal favourites playing lots of different historically-appropriate flutes and fretted instruments from the past 500 years. The programme will feature compositions by John Dowland, Arcangelo Corelli and François Borne.
Jonathan Delbridge is also new to Frome Concerts Group. He is bringing his own square piano, an instrument very similar to the one Jane Austen owned. With him is Penelope Appleyard who sang for us as part of Fair Oriana in 2019. Together they will delight us with Sense and Musicality, music associated with Jane Austen.
Don’t miss A4 Brass - four astonishing musicians who formed their quartet at the Royal Northern College of Music in 2013. Now principal musicians in the country’s top brass bands, they arrange – and commission - music for their ensemble and play with wonderful musicality and virtuosity. If you remember their previous concert here you will know that they present beautiful, gentle, lyrical music as well as lively, high octane pieces. This is our special, full length concert with an interval and it starts at 3pm.
Full programme details and information about the artists are here.
Subscription booking opens on January 6 – so treat yourself after you take down your Christmas cards and pack away the decorations. As always, buying a subscription to all four concert represents excellent value – saving almost the cost of a concert. Single concert tickets can be purchased from Friday 24 January onwards. Looking forward to another series of wonderful music. And if you want a reminder of the lovely concerts from 2024, have a listen here. Many thanks to Rupert at FromeFM for his excellent recordings.
With warmest wishes,
Mary, Rhona, Mary, Edith, Diana, Clive and Sarah
