About us

Frome Concerts Group is made up of about 160 music lovers who subscribe to a series of classical music concerts in Frome. We have a small team of volunteers who act as an organising committee. Concerts are held in the beautifully restored Rook Lane Chapel.

We encourage anyone to join us if there are spaces - the list is currently open. We also encourage those who just want to buy single tickets rather than subscribing, to do that too.

You become a member for the year in which you buy a subscription to one (or both) of our series of concerts.

Over the last twenty years, Frome Concerts Group has offered an opportunity to experience classical music in a relaxed and welcoming setting.

In 2003, a group of friends, inspired by the beauty of the newly restored Rook Lane Chapel, organised a short series of classical music concerts by professional musicians. Friends and neighbours were invited to subscribe to the series. The acoustic and layout of the chapel proved to be ideal for chamber music and the series was so successful that it became an annual event.

Twenty years later, Frome Concerts Group is an established part of the musical life of Frome. There are now two series of concerts each year, with an average audience of 140 at each concert. Many musicians are asking to perform here.

Each series includes a range of classical music, from ancient to modern, in a variety of styles.

Most of our audience subscribe to all four concerts in the knowledge that there will always be something different, unknown or new to explore as well as plenty of well loved pieces to enjoy.

Professional classical musicians come to play for us from all over the world! Most are now based in the UK. They include solo pianists, string quartets, wind trios, Early Music groups, duos of flute and guitar, accordion and saxophone. We pride ourselves on the wide variety of ensembles we host at our concerts.

Many are in the very early stages of their career; we have relationships with the Royal College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music, both of whom recommend talented young artists keen to play for us. Some are more established – including favourite performers who have returned to Rook Lane for a second, or even third time. We are proud to have supported some well known musicians at the start of their careers.

In each series we include a special full length concert, often by more established musicians and we have hosted the occasional big star – Raphael Wallfisch, Rachel Podger, Alexandra Dariescu and the Cremona Quartet.

Frome Concerts Group depends on subscriptions as it’s entirely self supporting and receives no sponsorship or grants. We need a significant number of people to buy a subscription for each series. This gives us financial security so we can book high-quality performers and make sure we have an adventurous and varied programme. 90% of our ticket sales are as subscriptions to all four concerts in a series.

There are benefits for you too! A subscription gives you a chance to book early and is amazing value with much reduced prices.

You also have the opportunty to get more involved if you want to - with voting rights at the Annual General Meeting when the organising committee is elected by the members. It’s the chance to share your views about the concerts as well. However, we want to be accessible to all so if you only decide to buy single tickets, we welcome that too.

Most people now buy online. You can make a direct booking through our website. You will be emailed tickets to print off or display on your phone at the venue.

New in 2026, the booking platform now allows you to book tickets to different concerts in one booking -as well as subscriptions. You no longer need to to make a separate booking and payment for each single concert.

We know that some of our regular subscribers do not have access to a computer, so it is also possible to contact us by phone or by post and to pay by cheque made payable to Frome Concerts Group. We strongly advise you to book early. Our concerts are very popular and the chapel offers limited seating capacity.

There are two series of concerts each year, four Sunday morning concerts in January, February and March and four Sunday afternoon concerts in the Autumn.

We foster an informal atmosphere. The musicians introduce themselves and their programme, telling you about the pieces they are to play. There is an opportunity to speak to the musicians after each concert.

We always encourage you to arrive early at both the Spring Concerts (Sunday mornings) and the Autumn Concerts (Sunday afternoons) meet up with friends and enjoy a complimentary coffee or tea before the concerts begin.

Most concerts last about an hour. The special concert is an hour and a half to two hours long with a short interval.

We try to keep ticket prices as low as possible but we have to cover costs - and we want to bring high quality musicians to Frome. Our prices will continue to be much lower than in city venues.

We understand some people can’t afford the subscription. It is transferable so sharing it, perhaps with another family, might help.

We offer concessions for those under 21.

We know single tickets are sometimes preferable if you can’t make it to all the concert in the series. If there are tickets left for individual concerts after the initial booking period for subscriptions, these single tickets are then offered for sale. But you do lose the discount so sharing a subscription with others might be better.

Most tickets are purchased on line.

No refunds are available but all tickets and subscriptions are transferable so can be used by another person if you can’t attend.
